Spanish infrastructure company OHLA won a new contract to carry out the renovation and improvement works of the East Pan-American Highway. The project is expected to cost $260 million and covers approximately 246 kilometers of highway between Panama City to Yaviza in the Darien province. The projects includes paving works and the expansion of rest bays and bus stops.
The contract, awarded by the Ruta del Este Concessionaire, outlines a 20-month construction timeline with works expected to start in June 2025. The East Pan-American Highway is a vital corridor for Panama’s connectivity and growth, supporting the movement of people and goods, while also playing a crucial role in providing access to essential services of surrounding communities.
OHLA is actively involved in strategic infrastructure projects in Panama. It is currently executing the extension of Line 1 of the Panama Metro to Villa Zaita. In addition, the company is working on the upgrade and expansion of the Mendoza water treatment plant in the Chorrera district in Western Panama.
