Panam LNG Bunkering is inviting shipping companies to submit expressions of interest (EOIs) for LNG bunkering services in Panama, as it prepares to begin operations in March 2025.
The initiative is carried out in collaboration with Seaspan Energy, which will make available the newly built Seaspan Garibaldi, a 7,600-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel.
On October 28, the company, a joint venture between AES Corporation and Seaspan Energy, issued a notice to shipping agents, vessel owners, and operators of LNG-fueled vessels transitting through the Panama Canal or docking at Atlantic-side ports in Panama.
Earlier, in October 2023, Canada-based Seaspan and energy company AES Corp signed an MoU to jointly advance the LNG bunkering business. AES has been expanding its Costa Norte LNG terminal in Colón, Panama, to include new LNG refueling infrastructure for LNG carriers through a ship-loading facility. The terminal will be equipped to provide LNG for refueling, both for bunkering and regional distribution.
Additionally, the facility will offer temporary storage and reloading using Costa Norte’s 180,000-cbm storage tank, allowing various market operators to store and access LNG as needed.
The notice aims to initiate early conversations with interested parties, allowing them to reserve bunkering slots and negotiate contract details, including vessel size, service scope, operations, supply logistics, and pricing.
The deadline for submitting EOIs is November 15, 2024, with final agreements expected to be signed in January 2025.
The LNG bunkering operations are set to officially launch in Panama in March 2025.
