Tocumen Airport in International Connectivity Top 5 in Latin America

Tocumen International Airport ✈️ has been recognized as one of the top airports for international connectivity in Latin America by the Official Aviation Guide (OAG). Last month, it secured the 4th place in the Megahubs 2024 International Connectivity Ranking. This highlights Tocumen’s vital role as a global aviation hub, offering connections to over 90 destinations across the Americas and Europe.

In Latin America, El Dorado Airport in Bogota, Colombia ranked first, followed by Mexico City International Airport and São Paulo/Guarulhos Airport.

Tocumen serves as a key hub for travel between North and South America, with Copa Airlines operating the largest route network, covering over 80 destinations. The airport, equipped with two runways, 54 boarding gates, and 12 remote stations, handles more than 500 daily flight operations.

Regarding Europe, Tocumen has direct daily flights to Amsterdam (KLM / Air France), Paris (KLM / Air France) and Madrid (Iberia & Air Europa).

Passenger Traffic Record

Between January and September 2024, Tocumen had a passenger traffic record of 14.3 million passengersThis number represents a growth of over 9%. The month of September closed with a total of 1,570,504 passengers, 75% of which were transit passengers.

The Top 5 of accumulated international destinations in 2024 is headed by Bogotá, Colombia, with a total of 762,532 passengers. Miami, United States, follows with 683,206 travelers, while Medellín, Colombia, ranks third with 528,151 users. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, is ranked fourth with 497,867 passengers, and in fifth place is San José, Costa Rica, with 492,782 people. These destinations stand out for their high demand, reinforcing Tocumen’s connectivity with the main tourist and commercial centers of the continent.

Cargo Movement

Meanwhile, cargo movement at Tocumen International Airport between January and September 2024 reached a cumulative total of 155,428 metric tons, representing a 4% growth compared to the same period of the previous year. This increase is equivalent to 5,671 additional metric tons, highlighting the growing relevance of the airport as a key logistics center for the region.
