In the first quarter of 2025 Panama will open the largest lubricant oil recycling and green lubricant production plant in Central America and the Caribbean. Located in Panama Logistics Park (PLP), the Afluena Oil company will have the capacity to process up to 8 million gallons annually, said its president, Geraldo Eduardo de Sampaio Guimaraes Peters.
75% of the lubricating bases of used oil can be recovered thanks to the plant’s circular economy model, which involves an initial equipment investment of $40 million. The model collects, processes, converts, and returns the product to the market. The remaining 25% is transformed into clean water and fuel, which are then used again in operations.
The plant occupies 24,500 square meters and is equipped with advanced technologies that reduce emissions and minimize environmental impact. After being turned into final products, the lubricating oils are destined for local and international industrial and automotive markets.
