MAERSK CEO Confirms Interest in New Port Development in Panama

Last week Vincent Clerk, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk confirmed the group’s interest in investing in new ports in Panama 🇵🇦. He did that at the business meeting: Logistics in Transformation: Panama’s Bet on Growth and Innovation, organized by the Embassy of Denmark in Colombia 🇩🇰 and the Netherlands Embassy in Panama 🇳🇱. Jose Ramon Icaza, Minister of Canal Affairs, presented the projects expected for tender in 2026.

Clerc stated that there is a large shortage in port capacity in the region and that Panama has been slow to develop port infrastructure. He said that increasing port capacity is essential for the country to maintain regional logistics leadership.

At the meeting, attended by international companies, business associations, and government representatives, he restated MAERSK’s and its Dutch subsidiary APM Terminals 🇳🇱 intention to continue investing in Panama and the interested in the new port projects, to be developed by the Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

Minister of Canal Affairs, Jose Ramón Icaza, presented key upcoming investment projects such as the gas pipeline, the Rio Indio Reservoir and the development of two ports: Corozal on the Pacific and Telfers Island on the Atlantic.

Keen on increasing available port capacity, he said that ACP will soon contact various shipping companies and port operators to present port projects and expects the port projects to be out to tender 2nd half of 2026.
