IKEA Reveals First Panama Locations and Setup of Logistics Hub

  • News

IKEA 🇸🇪 is moving ahead with its entry into Panama, confirming Zona Uno, Altaplaza and Metropark as the first locations in a phased expansion developed with franchise partner Sarton Group. Rather than launching through a traditional large-format store, the retailer will initially build its presence around ecommerce, logistics and gradually larger physical locations.

Digital Platform & Zona Uno: Logistics Hub

The first stage will center on the website ikea.pa which will become the main platform for discovering and purchasing IKEA products as online sales are introduced. A logistics hub at Zona Uno near Tocumen Airport will support order preparation, pickup and planned home-delivery services, including an external pickup point for selected digital and telephone orders. The site will function as logistics infrastructure rather than as a retail store.

Altaplaza: Compact IKEA store

A later phase will introduce a compact-format IKEA store at Altaplaza, giving customers the opportunity to see and test selected products, access planning services and receive in-person assistance. The store will be integrated with IKEA’s digital channels, where customers will be able to access a broader product range and combine online and physical shopping.

Metropark: Mid-Sized Store & Distribution Center

The expansion will subsequently extend to Metropark (near Costa Sur), where IKEA plans a mid-sized store together with a higher-capacity distribution center. This development is expected to broaden the in-store offer while strengthening logistics, e-commerce capabilities and the gradual expansion of products and services available in Panama.

The strategy reflects IKEA’s broader omnichannel model, combining digital sales with physical stores, pickup, delivery and customer support. The product assortment will also be introduced progressively, with IKEA positioning its offering around its “Democratic Design” principles of form, function, quality, sustainability and affordability.
