Panama Canal Launches Tender for Rio Indo Project Management

Last week the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) published a tender for the project management, engineering & construction consultancy services related to the Rio Indio project. The aim of the contract is to support the ACP in the management of the implementation of the Rio Indio Reservoir contract and provide advisory support.

The $1.6 B. Rio Indio Reservoir project includes construction of a main rockfill dam, a spillway, auxiliary saddle dams and a 8 km. long transfer tunnel to Gatun Lake. It is intended to guarantee drinking water security and sustaining Panama Canal operations.

Important requirements

The tender is aimed at firms or consortia with proven experience managing major infrastructure projects, particularly dams, tunnels and hydraulic structures, under a Design-Build model and in line with international standards, including the IFC Performance Standards.

Bidders are not required to maintain a local presence in Panama. Foreign companies may participate through local representation, while consortia are also eligible provided that both the technical and financial proposals are submitted under the consortium’s name. No estimated project value was published, bidding based on best value.
