Last week Panama’s Maritime Authority (AMP) announced the formalization of a public tender for the study, design, supply, installation, training, and maintenance of a Maritime Traffic Control System (VTMS / VTS).
According to AMP, the project will modernize the security of the maritime and port logistics chain while also promoting private investment.
As a signatory of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), Panama is obligated to establish VTMS in accordance with international standards.
The system is designed to improve the transformation and communication of warnings, helping to minimize accidents that impact maritime transport and nearby coastal or riverine populations.
The envisaged tender publication date was not mentioned. Interested companies can monitor tenders via the Panama Compra website.
